BIO
Marianna Angel (b. 1995) is a Miami-based artist working across collage, performance, and video. Her practice centers around photography as a voyeuristic medium, used to document moments in suspension—glimpses into memory, intimacy, and fragmented identity. Often drawing from devices of self-portraiture, Angel positions herself as both artist and subject, re-articulating the exhibitionist quality of being seen. Even in her non-figurative works, she remains present—the output reading as diaristic traces, quietly cataloging the emotional residue of personal timelines.

STATEMENT
My work explores themes of identity in flux—how it shifts and dissolves under the pressure of changing circumstances, particularly intimate relationships, both platonic and romantic. What begins as nostalgia gradually unravels into layered, intersecting timelines, where I appear in multiple, sometimes contradictory, forms.
Performance in my practice becomes a kind of ego death—a trance state in which I separate from the body, from the “flesh prison.” But it’s no longer just about me. The work is becoming a hollow space—ominous, open—inviting new inhabitants, new interpretations. Through photography, performance, and material experimentation, I explore the blurred edges of personal narrative, using the self as a vessel for shared human experience.

11. Diasphanes

It sprouted from a pod– a seed cracking at the seams, from it emerged a thing. A neck. A mouth. Then the mouth got longer and it became hard, as hard as bone– it was a beak. Its hair grew wispy and then multiplied into feathers. It let out a shriek as its neck began to bulge. Oh what could it be but another beak peaking through the ruffled feathers. Soon a face, then a head, then another serpent like neck. Again this happened until there were three. Born was Diasphanes, who would soon be protector of the gates that guarded memory and all sensibility. Torn between the rational and irrational, it wandered with its many heads facing many roads, only to find itself stationed back at its post, keeping out the unknowing, and keeping in the all knowing...

10. in memorycollage and objects–
memorabilia of moments that are yet to occer and at a loss for what has passed.

In this passage you will find quilted narratives of past, present, future and ever evolving moments. With the unrealibility of self recollection and mental pauses, we are victims of unthruths. Analog photography is used as a documentation tool to remember what we forget to remember. Recollections are abstracted and distorted with time. Only time keeps the moments for our minds are fleeting.

09. A stain harder to remove than a tattoo The moon rains from the sky
Settled into a puddle
Iridescent bubbles flutter up to the surface
Stillness overflows

What is left?
A scene without a light
To slumber without knowing if dreams exist
Somber is the night

Then the puddle reflected back
Refracting my image
Bubbles to shards
Iridescent to dull

What was left?
Remnants of disturbance
To slumber with doubt
Tearing through darkness
Endless plight

08. Star Dream GirlStar Dream Girl is a durational performance and video series that explores the friction between erotic spectacle and formal abstraction. Through repetitive movement, sound, and process-based mark-making, the artist crushes charcoal with a vibrator, applies the pigment to her body, and generates large-scale danced drawings on paper. These acts unfold live and onscreen, where amplified vibrations and looped drum beats turn ritual into rhythm. What results is an embodied study in labor, voyeurism, and transformation—where the line between the intimate and the performative is purposefully blurred.

Operating in a liminal space between fine art and adult content, this work interrogates the transactional gaze, performative control, and the absurdity of visibility itself. Star Dream Girl is not just an avatar of desire, but a sculptor of gesture, sound, and surface—using the erotic not to seduce meaning, but to undo it.

05. AshesEmploying elements of dance, Ashes explores the movement of the body and interaction among multiple bodies that bleed into one being. The bodies sway in and out of position while still in synchronized movement. One arm following another, followed by a third, and in this choreography a dance of flesh and surroundings is created. The subjects move in tune to their encompassing background and are aware of space and time-keeping. Like music, the subjects move in harmony. Distorted waves of twinkling sounds envelop the scene, causing uncertainty and chaos but the figures so elegantly continue to follow one another in seemingly organized footwork. Although the figure improvises movements, there is a harmony imbedded in the flesh. Ashes is a reflection of our physical beings falling in line with nature, movements that are organic and genuine because they are not predetermined. The exploration of body and movement play a roll in reaching the ephemeral quality of existence. Ashes is a dance, a song, a mirror of our bodies versus soul and nature.

04. Intimate Acts of ViolenceReferencing Butoh and incorporating music "intimate acts of violence" is a performance of grief and ecstasy. Derailing from the tracks of accepted societa norms and crashing into the bleak, dim limbo; the in between; the twilight of night and day...day and night? Where are we now? How do we read the manuscript of sorrows, of violence, of ending, of relief, of grief? Of me and who I am perceived to be? I shall conduct myself to perform behind a mask, as a puppet of self. Myself? I lost my identity time and time over again, swaying between vices, swaying between destinations swaying between souls. My soul? How many souls can I acquire? I am Chichikov, I am me, and I am many me's all at once. AND the page is turned, onto the next cycle of grief and battle with pain. We travel down the cantos til we reach swee icy ecstasy. Down where Virgil leads Dante. We are here and we are free, this is me and ripples of grief lift around me. I see the light and it is bright. Come through th tunnel, be born again and let me cry my fears away.
